Experimental and Computational Physics of Biosystems

Group

Our research group is based at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Physical Sciences and Earth Sciences (MIFT Department) at the University of Messina, Italy.

We combine experimental techniques -including neutron, X-ray, Raman, IR and photocorrelation spectroscopy and calorimetry- with computational tools, such as classical molecular dynamics simulations together with enhanced sampling methods.

We aim to investigate the structure and dynamics of biosystems across various relevant temporal scales in biological activity. Our research interests include the role of proteins and lipids in neurodegenerative diseases, the liquid-liquid phase separation in lipid membranes, the collective dynamics of biomolecules and their hydration water, the physico-chemical landscape of biopolimeric colloids, the dynamics of calcium fluxes in astrocytic cells… (Check out the Research Section for more details!)
